It's a rare occasion for me to accept a commission to paint a subject not of my choice, but the chance to introduce Leonardo da Vinci to Marcel Duchamp was irresistible. Amid sketches adapted from Leonardo's notebooks, I turned Duchamp's notorious urinal/sculpture into a planter, transformed his "ready-made" bottle-dryer into gold, as if by the artist's touch, and posed his drag alter ego, Rose Selavy, as the Mona Lisa.
