Dancing in the Rain
48" x 64"
1986 Collection of Leslie Powell
When the Sundance in Paris was sold, it left a void in the studio that only fellow Paris sentimentalists will understand. I remembered that Renoir had painted more than one dancing couple. Changing the dancers from out-of-towners to locals altered the composition, color, and mood somewhat and made it, to my mind, a new painting. Now this one has left the studio. Unfortunately Renoir's third dancing couple lacked the charm of the others, so this is the end of the series.
Fortunately, collectors allow me visiting privileges.
