I wanted to keep the message of Picasso's Guernica for today in a painting more in my style. If there is humor here, it's very bitter. I use Guernica to represent the threat of war close to home that hangs over the country, increased rather than lessened by government policies. As the rest of us are encouraged to consume and party on, brave young men and women and their families are sacrificed in a callously cruel, false-from-the-beginning cause.
