One of the pleasures of living in Manhattan is the sidewalk gallery on the Upper West Side -- not painting and sculpture, but a splendid panorama of fruits and vegetables, set out, in tantalizing display, stacked in front of produce markets. What if, I thought, one were to take details of still life paintings by famous artists, put them in boxes, stack them up together on one canvas, as if they were for sale on the sidewalk? I enjoy time travel, moving around in art history, paying homage to artists I admire, with humor whenever possible. This demanded to be called The Art Market.
